Jon R. Coover is President and Co-Founder of Minerva Capital Management. Throughout Dr. Coover’s education career of 30 years plus, he has written and managed P&L budgets from $7 million to in excess of $400 million. He directed acquisitions and their integration into Career Education Corporation (CECO: NASDAQ) including the integration of the Whitman School Group, the initial franchise arrangement with Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Division, Paris, France and the development of the International Division within CECO. Following CECO’s acquisition of American Intercontinental University (AIU) Jon co-authored the AIU Online Division. As co-founder of CECO and one of three Group Presidents, Jon built the Admissions Department for CECO and opened campus satellites and branch campuses in the United States, Europe, Canada and the Middle East. Following these achievements, Jon continued participation in the education vertical with Premier Education Group, Empire Education, and assisted Porter and Chester in upgrading their Admissions system establishing processes synergistic with present market demands.
Dr. Coover co-founded Minerva Capital Management, Inc. (MCM) hedge fund. Minerva Fund 01 invested in a group of schools that realized, in its first year, 56% growth in population and revenues over previous year yielding substantial returns. Jon has a reputation for compliant operations successfully turning around school groups, jump starting performance and meeting plan expectations. He brings the experience of having performed in all the roles at the campus and corporate levels. His style of mentoring staff and faculty to a clear, student-centric outlook has proven to capture employee loyalty and performance while achieving expected outcomes.
At CECO, he held the positions of Academic Provost, Executive V.P. of Admissions & Marketing and Group President, overseeing 37+ schools, colleges and institutes growing the company’s revenues from $65 million to a market cap on NASDAQ of $4 billion. He focuses on the importance of partnering marketing and admissions efforts with education, financial aid, placement and student organizations to achieve consistent student services impacting the intake and retention metrics. Dr. Coover established branding and marketing B2B and B2C in the domestic and international markets including closed loop and social media strategies affecting organic growth.
Jon is a recipient of the prestigious Department of Defense Certificate of Esteem; was appointed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to the State Board of Education for Proprietary Schools Student Tuition Guaranty Fund Advisory Committee and has been a member of the National Paralegal Association, The Actuarial Society and World Trade Association (Mergers & Acquisitions) – Palm Beach, Fla. Dr. Coover is a charitable donor of Brown University, Providence, R.I. Jon holds a B.S./M.B.A. with an emphasis on international finance, mergers and acquisitions from California Western University.
