EVENT SYNOPSIS: The renewable energy market is a beehive of activity, the amount of money available is staggering. The will of the people is there, and yet the adoption rate of renewable energy is nowhere near what it could be compared to the growth of the internet (0 to 2/3 of the Earth in a generation) and its sub-technologies, cryptocurrency, online banking, entertainment services and such.

This panel proposes simply to look at the market to indeed identify the obstacles, distortions and Ponzi Schemes that are preventing a faster moving transition.

Are there an infinite number of innovative companies vying for market dominance? Or is it just a few companies, whose stocks are rising solely because a great many investors want to be seen as “green” and the universe of investable companies is limited?

Do governments really want to satisfy this need? Or are they satisfied to hand the market to bureaucrats to regulate the market into knots?

Are near-monopoly power companies on board with this? Or are they just biding time and protecting themselves? Or are their hands tied by local governments who are afraid that innovation would mean a small price rise? Or are they just frustrated and confused because the forthcoming ideas and proposed products just don’t make sense? All of the above?

The upside potential is a multi-trillion dollar renewable power sector supporting a cleaner and more peaceful world. The downside potential is a whole lot of investment down the proverbial toilet, no improvements to the energy grid, and little impact on CO2 emissions, whose reduction is the original intention of these massive investments. Where are we headed?
